Candidate Handbook
Candidate Objectives
Must have requirements:
- Proof of current National Ski Patrol OEC course completion
- Or EMT with National Ski Patrol Bridge course completion
- Proof of current CPR course completion (updated yearly)
"SKILLS" required:
- Team Work
- Both as a leader and a member
- Knowledge of both marked and unmarked runs
- Will know the names of all runs of chairs 1 through 4
- Knowledge of mountain facilities and equipment
- Will know the locations of ski school, patrol hut, ticket office, garage, lift shacks area boundaries and related equipment.
- Proficient skiing skills
- Proficient toboggan handling skills which should include:
- Should demonstrate the following
- Burrito packaging
- Approach, securing and loading of a toboggan
- Proper traverse and fall line route selection
- Handling at both front and tail
- Communication with partner and patient
- Uploading on chair-lifts
- Overall maintenance and control of a toboggan
- Proficient First Aid skills which should include:
- Will demonstrate, and be subject to testing of NSP guidelines for OEC Skills
- Will know the requirements and locations of first aid equipment at:
- Patrol room
- Top of lifts
- Patrol belts
- Demonstrate proper lift transportation of injured to:
- Patrol room
- Bottom of hill
- Demonstrate complete and accurate reporting on Accident Report Form
